How to : Improve your Alexa Rank

Before anything, I should apologize for my absence during the past 3 weeks.

We all heard about alexa’s updated algorithm on sorting the traffic rankings. I’ve been doing some tests since then and here’s what I discovered.

1) Use the alexa traffic rank widget. Example : reviewgadgetblog.com. The site was getting 500+ visits/day and its alexa remained at 1,2-1,4 million. After I put the alexa widget, the site dropped to 952,000. Notable is that the site now receives just 40-60 visits/daily. Imagine my rank with the traffic it used to be AND the widget :)

2) Use the alexa toolbar. Yeah this one still counts. I un-installed the alexa toolbar for a couple of weeks. My rankings dropped since then (I’m using the toolbar now though).

3) Quality of traffic doesn’t matter. Yeah it doesn’t.Example: XETB.com averages 500 visits/day from Iran and its alexa rank is stabled between 300,000-380,000; This being said, you can try using some auto-surf programs to improve your rank.

That’s about it, not many changes from the last algorithm. I will keep this post updated in case I find something new.

Leaving for vacation!

Yeah it’s sad. :(

I’m leaving to a mathematical camp in Bulgaria for 2 weeks. During these 2 weeks - this blog = forgotten.

I’ll take time there to put word to word my newest SEO article which reveals some of my suppositions of the latest google update (in case you didn’t notice, 90% of the SERPS changed instantly 2 days ago)

See you in 2 weeks!

Google Employee shares SEO Tips

That’s right! Matt Cutts, a google employee, shared 5 google positioning tips tips. USA Today asked him questions on SEO and from his answers we understood the following beneficial SEO factors at Google.

  1. Spotlight your search term on the page. If you want to be found for your keyword, make sure that term is on the page you want to rank. The term should be at the top as well as peppered throughout your copy.
  2. Fill in your “tags.” The two most important tags are Title and Description b/c that’s what is displayed on the search results.
  3. Get other sites to “link” back to you. This is one of the most important of the 100 factors Google considers when ranking sites
  4. Create a blog and post often
  5. Register for free tools. Cutts recommends using the tools at google.com/webmaster, as well as creating a text-based sitemap and adding your business to Google’s Local Business center

Of course, these are commonly known SEO factors, however it’s nice to hear a confirmation!
